If you ask for information of someone's credit card info over the internet is it a crime?

ok heres the story i was playing ps3 gta and this rude brit came in started cusing at my friends so i got mad and tricked him i said i was hacking him so he coudent leave the server but i wasent he just lives in the uk so he has only 3 servers so when he left he came bck cause it there wasent any other servers avalible so he thinked im hack ing any way i said to him give me 5 bucks and ill let you go i just asked 4 money never said credit card info but is it a crime please i need to know!!
