Is it legal to hunt birds at my complex?

My Dad got me an AWESOME Airsoft BB gun for my Birthday last week and I love my gun a lot. My Dad said I should use the wild birds in our backyard for target practice. The problem is that my aim is off and I have only hit one yard bird and it was just a tiny baby bird. I took its eye out though which was totally awesome. So, in our apartment complex we have lots of people who keep their pet birds in cages that they leave out on their porch in the afternoon. Lately I have been shooting those birds because I can get right up to em and take them out POW one right after the other... and it really improves my aim alot. My Dad thinks it's funny. I feel bad though because some of these birds are very pretty. There was this one with blue and red feathers and stuff. I also kind of feel bad cause I have seen a bunch of people around our complex crying and stuff and I think it's cause their birds were shot. Some seem angry too. But still, it's just a dumb bird. Tomorrow my Dad said we are going to go hunt Mrs Hollingsworth African Grey Parrot which is a very pretty grey bird that says words and stuff. We took one out yesterday and it was so funny because it said swear words when it was hit it . I feel sort of bad though. I like Mrs Hollingsworth, and I have already taken out like 7, or 8 of her smaller birds and got one of her cats too. But the cat didn't die or nothing, it just walks sideways now. I told my Dad that we should take out the ducks in the pond instead, but he said to improve my aim, the bigger parrots in the cages are better for me to learn how to aim and then I can advance to the ducks,. Do you guys know if it is against any rules, or laws?
